1. Information we collect
- Account & school details: name, email, school or organization name and chosen subdomain.
- Student accounts: when a student joins a class through a teacher’s link, the student’s name, email address and password.
- Uploaded content: student submissions, whether a teacher uploads them or a student sends them through a class link, marking schemes and assignment material.
- Problem reports: what you write when you report a problem from inside the Service, and the page it was sent from.
- Billing information: handled by our payments provider. We receive subscription status and invoices, not full card numbers.
- Usage data: basic logs and metering (e.g. credits consumed) needed to run and secure the Service.
2. How we use it
- To provide grading, review and export features.
- To let students send their work to their teacher’s tasks.
- To answer problem reports.
- To send uploaded work to our AI provider to generate marks and feedback.
- To manage your subscription, meter credits and prevent abuse.
- To communicate with you about your account and the Service.
3. AI processing
To grade work, submissions and marking schemes are sent to our AI subprocessor, Anthropic (the Claude API), to generate marks and comments that are returned to your environment. Anthropic processes this content in the United States. Per Anthropic’s commercial terms, data submitted through its API is not used to train its models, and we do not use your content to train any models of our own. Submissions are sent only to generate your results, never for advertising or resale.
4. Where your data lives
Application data is hosted in Canada (the ca-central-1 region). Some subprocessors (for example, payment processing) may operate in other jurisdictions under appropriate safeguards.
5. Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with subprocessors that help us run the Service: hosting, payments and AI grading, and where required by law. Each school’s data is isolated from every other school. Ellie, the assistant on this website, is covered in section 9, and the Try Marlo sample in section 10.
6. Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. On termination, data is deleted or returned as described in the Data Processing Addendum. Conversations with Ellie are deleted 12 months after their last message (section 9). Questions asked in the Try Marlo sample are covered in section 10.
7. Your rights
Subject to applicable Canadian privacy law (including PIPEDA), you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you. For student information processed on behalf of a school, please direct requests through that school.
8. Children’s information
Students use the Service only through a class their school set up. A student joins with the teacher’s link, sees only their own classes, and can send their own work. Students are not shown marks or other students’ work in the Service. Student work is processed on the school’s instructions. The school decides which students to invite and remains responsible for parental notice and consent as required.
A student, parent or guardian who wants a student’s account or work corrected or deleted should ask the school. The school can remove the student from a class and ask us to delete the account.
9. Ellie, the assistant on this website
Ellie is an AI assistant that answers questions about Elevate Grade on this website. It is software, not a person, and it can be wrong.
- What we keep: your messages to Ellie and its replies, the page you were on and the time, the browser and device details sent with each message, and a code made from your network address with a secret key. The code changes every day. We never store the address itself.
- Why: to answer you and carry on the conversation, to see which questions Ellie could not answer so that a person can follow up and the site can say more about them, to limit how many messages one connection can send, and to spot attempts to misuse Ellie.
- Who processes it: to write each reply, the conversation is sent to Anthropic (the Claude API), which processes it in the United States and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models. Conversations are stored in the database we use for website enquiries, hosted in the United States, and our team receives a weekly summary of them by email. While you browse, your browser also keeps the conversation for that tab, so it follows you from page to page. Closing the tab clears it.
- If you leave your name and email: Ellie asks for them only so that a person can reply to you. Your name and email, the school or organization if you gave one, and your question become an enquiry in our customer records, so that a person can reply.
- How long we keep it: a conversation is deleted automatically 12 months after its last message. An enquiry in our customer records stays until you ask us to remove it.
- Deletion: write to support@elevategrade.com from the address you gave Ellie, or tell us roughly when you chatted and on which page, and we will delete the conversation and any enquiry made from it.
Please do not share passwords, card numbers or information about a student with Ellie. Ellie never asks for them, and we remove anything that looks like a card number before a message is stored or sent anywhere.
10. Try Marlo, the sample on this website
On the Marlo page you can ask Marlo, our tutor, a few questions about a sample school’s course material. Marlo is software, not a person, and it can be wrong.
- What happens to your question: we remove markup and anything that looks like a card number, then send the question to Marlo as a student of its sample school. Marlo writes each answer with Google’s Gemini models, so your question and the sample material it draws on are sent to Google to write the reply.
- What Marlo keeps: your questions and Marlo’s answers stay in the sample school’s conversation history, in a database hosted in Canada. Our team can read that history, and we use the sample school when we show Marlo to schools.
- What this website keeps: counts only. How many questions you have asked, and a code made from your network address with a secret key. The code changes every day, and we never store the address itself. The counts are deleted 90 days after your last question.
- The cookie: a cookie holding a random number lets us count your questions. It is used for nothing else and expires after 30 days.
- Deletion: write to support@elevategrade.com and tell us roughly when you asked, and we will delete your questions from the sample school.
Please do not type personal information, passwords or anything about a real student into the sample.
11. Visits to this website
We record a page view with the time, the page path, the referring website’s host name, campaign tags in the address, country and broad device type. We do not keep the referring page or its query.
Instead of keeping your network address, we make a code from the UTC day, that address and the browser’s user agent with a secret key. The code changes each day and the address itself is never stored or logged. Page view tracking uses no cookie or browser storage. A browser that sends the Global Privacy Control signal is not recorded. Page views are kept for 13 months.
The currency a page shows its prices in is chosen from the country of your network address when the page is requested, and that choice is not stored. If you pick the other currency with the link beside the prices, a cookie named eg_currency keeps your pick for a year. It holds only the currency.
12. Resources you download
When you unlock a resource, we keep the resource, your email address, and any name, organization and role you choose to give us, together with the page, time and country. We use this information to send the files, understand which resources are useful and follow up about Elevate Grade.
The unlock is added to our customer records and sent to our customer relationship management system so that our team can respond. It stays there until you ask us to remove it. To request deletion, write from the address you used to support@elevategrade.com.
