1. The Service
Elevate Grade (“the Service”, “we”, “us”) is operated by SchoolConex Inc. and offers two products to schools and tutoring centres: Margin, an AI teacher assistant that marks student work, and Marlo, an AI tutor installed inside a school’s Moodle. Each Margin school is provisioned its own isolated, subdomain-branded environment on our multi-tenant grading platform. Marlo is installed by us in the school’s own Moodle instance. Daybook, the record of each class, is also made by Elevate Grade. It is signed up for and billed on its own site, daybook.elevategrade.com, under its own terms, except as part of the platform below.
2. Accounts and schools
- You must provide accurate account and school details and keep your credentials secure.
- Each administrator account is tied to a single school organisation.
- You are responsible for activity under your account, for your teachers’ use of the Service, and for the students you invite to your classes.
3. Margin: free papers, billing and renewal
- No payment card is needed to start. A new school signs up with an email address and receives a limited number of free papers: submissions Margin marks at no charge, with no time limit. The number is shown in the app. Free papers are given once per organisation.
- When the free papers are used, a paid plan is required to continue marking. The school chooses a plan (Starter, Pro or School) and a billing period, monthly or yearly, and enters a payment card at checkout. The card is charged at checkout for the first billing period, and the plan starts that day. Paid plans have no free period, and neither does a plan chosen again after a cancellation.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period, monthly or yearly, at the then-current price for your plan, until you cancel. Fees are billed in advance for each period, in the currency shown when you subscribe, Canadian or US dollars, through our payments provider, Stripe. Applicable taxes are added where the law requires.
- Cancel at any time from your billing page or the billing portal. Access continues to the end of the period you have paid for, and the plan does not renew. You can also change plan or billing period there. A change is prorated by the payments provider and shown on the next invoice.
- One credit marks one submission. Monthly credits reset each billing period, on yearly plans too, and do not roll over. When your monthly cap is reached, new marking pauses until you top up, change plan or the period renews. Uploading and reviewing work already marked is not blocked. Marking a submission again after a transcript correction uses another credit.
- Credit top-up packs are one-time purchases made from the billing page. Top-up credits never expire and are drawn on only after your monthly allotment is used. Packs are tied to the school that bought them.
- We may change prices with at least thirty days’ notice by email to the account owner; a change applies from your next renewal after the notice period.
- Each school is billed independently, with its own invoices and its own billing portal.
4. Marlo: subscription and setup
- Marlo is licensed per school, in the size chosen at checkout (Starter, Pro or School), billed monthly or yearly at the price shown there. The card entered at checkout is charged for the first billing period when the checkout completes, and the subscription then renews each billing period until cancelled, as in section 3.
- Marlo has no free period. The Marlo sample on our website, which answers a few questions about a sample course, is a demonstration only: it is not an account or a subscription.
- After checkout we contact the school to install the Marlo plugin in its Moodle instance and to ingest the policy documents it provides. The school grants us the administrative access needed for the installation and keeps its Moodle instance maintained and reachable.
- Marlo answers from the documents and records the school provides. The school remains responsible for their accuracy and for what its staff approve on the basis of them.
- The platform, Margin, Marlo and Daybook together for one school (Daybook’s School plan for up to 10 teachers, more by arrangement), is billed monthly from checkout, with no free papers and no free period, and renews monthly until cancelled, as in section 3. After checkout we contact the school to set up all three. The school’s Daybook is made for it with no Daybook subscription of its own, and Daybook’s own terms apply to its use.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to access another school’s data, uploading unlawful content, reverse-engineering the platform, circumventing credit limits, or reselling access without authorisation.
6. Your content and student work
Student submissions, marking schemes and related material you upload, work your students send through a class link, and the documents you give Marlo remain yours. You grant us a limited licence to process that content solely to provide the Service, including sending it to our AI subprocessor to generate marks, feedback and answers. See the Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum for details.
7. AI-assisted output
Marks, comments, report-card drafts, transcript evaluations and answers produced by the Service are assistive. A qualified educator remains responsible for reviewing output and for any final grade, credit decision or communication to a student, parent or ministry. The Service surfaces low-confidence results in a review queue for exactly this reason, and nothing it drafts is issued without a person approving it.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update features, and will give reasonable notice of material changes to these terms. If a change materially reduces the Service you pay for, you may cancel before it takes effect.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by cancelling as described in sections 3 and 4. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these terms or for non-payment after notice. On termination, your data is handled as described in the Data Processing Addendum.
10. Disclaimers and liability
The Service is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. This reflects where Elevate Grade is established and does not limit the Service to any particular curriculum or country: schools elsewhere may use it, subject to their own local obligations.
